It was a three-day-long festivity in Verden with breeders, riders and horse enthusiasts from all over the world celebrating the young Hanoverian stallions. 87 two-and-a-half-year-olds showed up in front of the Licensing Committee with Breeding Manager Dr. Werner Schade. 52 of them were licensed, ten also honoured with a special award: ten dressage prospects and seven show jumping experts.
This age-group shined with many qualities and a great number of youngsters at the top: There was a huge variety of performance pedigrees, all of them backed up by superb dam lines. Breeding manager Dr. Werner Schade said: "The dressage stallions exhibited extraordinary movement and modern types. The free running and free jumping was perfect. The show jumping stallions presented amazing jumping skills over the fences with a lot of scope."
The succeeding auction finished with a sound result. The 52 licensed stallions were sold at averagely Euro 52,000. A Dancier/Rotspon-son (breeder: Jan-Niclaas von Holten, Langen; exhibitor: Detlef Ruddat, Kirchlinteln) became most expensive youngster. The awarded, eagerly moving black stallion prospect was sold at Euro 320,000. Top-priced jumper became an awarded Canstakko/Singular Joter-son (breeder: Klaus-Heinrich Brinkmann, Heeslingen; exhibitor: Mathieu Beckmann, Wettringen) for whom a Danish stud paid Euro 65,000. Six stallions were sold at more than Euro 100,000. The Celle National State Stud and the Stallion Station Poll in Hörem, purchased an awarded Vivaldi/Donnerhall-son (breeder: Hans Heinrich Schnadt, Rinteln; exhibitor: Rolf Trute, Cremlingen) at Euro 260,000. Euro 220,000 was the price for an awarded Diamond Hit/Florestan I-son (breeder: Nicole Wanning, Schüttorf; exhibitor: Zuchtgemeinschaft Wanning, Schüttorf). 35 Hanoverian horses will stay in Germany, 17 will start their careers abroad. Euro 19,250 was averagely invested in the non-licensed stallions with a Don Frederico/Rotspon-son (breeder: Petra Biebrich, Adelheidsdorf; exhibitor: Gestüt Sprehe, Löningen) being the top-priced candidate and sold at Euro 57,000. "We were overwhelmed by the high demand as this is also a strong positive signal for the future," Dr. Werner Schade concluded. "These top stallions will prove to be the best investment for the private stallion holders as well as the state studs."
The Stallion Sales in Verden was the last auction of Friedrich-Wilhelm Isernhagen. He has been standing at the auctioneer's desk in the Niedersachsenhalle for 37 years, selling Hanoverian riding horses, stallions, mares and foals in his own, particularly brilliant style and charm. Manfred Schäfer stated in his laudation: "Friedrich-Wilhelm Isernhagen is a highly appreciated member of the Hanoverian family. He is a profound expert with a high degree of competence, focusing his attention on every horse and every person and always sticking to the facts." In recognition of his service to the Hannoveraner Verband, Friedrich-Wilhelm Isernhagen was awarded the Golden Badge of Honour, and the 2,500 visitors celebrated him with standing ovations.
Från Hanoveraner Verband 2:
A worthy setting for an outstanding stallion: Almost 3,000 guests celebrated Don Frederico, the Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2012, in the Niedersachsenhalle which was filled to capacity. This prize is granted every year by the Hannoveraner Verband and the insurance company R+V/Vereinigte Tierversicherung to honor an approved Hanoverian stallion. This year, the Celle state stud stallion Don Frederico was given this honor. Breeder Angelika Westerhoff was happy to receive an oil painting by the artist Manfred Busemann and a well-endowed check.
Angelika Westerhoff from Bleckede bred her mare Cleopatra to the exceptional stallion Donnerhall: Don Frederico was born in 1997 and raised by Klaus Bünger, Oetzen. The black sire descends from the mare line of Schwanjungfrau that also produced the trademark stallion Lanthan. The sporty youngster delighted licensing committee and guests on the occasion of the stallion licensing in Verden in 1999, he was named Champion Stallion and sold to the Celle State Stud. Don Frederico shined again at his stallion performance test in Adelheidsdorf, finishing second overall and winning the dressage test convincingly with a partial score of 151.67 points. He competed at the Bundeschampionate in Warendorf at the age of five and six, and he was the first state stud stallion ever to participate at a Final of the Nürnberger Burgpokal; he won the opening competition in 2006. Don Frederico is today successfully competing with Obersattelmeister Ole Köhler in dressage tests up to S-level.
Don Frederico did an excellent job, not only when it comes to sport, but particularly also as regards breeding. The Bundeschampion Dantonisius and the Vice Champion Dark Carlotta, both out of Weltmeyer-dams, come from his first crop of foals on the ground. Current shooting stars made by Don Frederico are the silver medalist of the Olympic Games in London, Diva Royal with Dorothee Schneider, and Isabell Werth's Grand Prix-horse Don Johnson FRH. 25 of his sons were licensed for breeding by the Hannoveraner Verband, among them the current bronze medalist of five-year-old dressage horses at the Bundeschampionate in Warendorf, Don Darius, and the World Champion of young dressage horses in 2008, Dramatic. More than 2,500 progeny are registered with the Hannoveraner Verband, among them 178 state premium mares and state premium candidates, 325 Hanoverians were sold at auctions.
Don Frederico was already honored with the Grande-Prize in 2009. Breeding manager Dr. Werner Schade summarized: "The award 'Stallion of the Year' is meant to honor stallions whose progeny are successful in international top sport. This is exactly the most impressive characteristic of Don Frederico. He scores with willingness to perform, power and ambition, and he passes on these important positive traits to his sons and daughters. He set standards."
